Charles "Chuck" Walker is an American writer, the president of the MacArthur Foundation in International Human Rights, and a professor of Latin American history at the University of California, Davis. He also serves as the director of his Hemispheric Institute of the Americas. His interests include Peru, natural disasters, social movements, subaltern politics, truth commissions, and sports and empires.
Among his best works are The Conquest of the Andes: How the Inca Empire Fell to the Spanish and Smoldering Ashes: Cuzco and the Politics of the Early Spanish Colony. These investigations offer a deep look into the history of the region, combining methods of historical analysis with sociocultural studies. His interdisciplinary approach has been key in understanding the history of the Andean peoples and their legacies.
