El detective Vincent D'Agosta, fiel compañero de Pendergast, recibe una carta «póstuma» de su amigo pidiéndole que se ocupe de ciertos asuntos, y, aún más importante, que ha de detener a Diógenes, quien ha anunciado que cometerá un gran crimen dentro de una semana. Nadie sabe de qué se trata. Vincent intenta localizar a Diógenes, pero ha desaparecido. Luego empieza una serie de extraños asesinatos en Nueva York, y la única conexión entre ellos es que todas las víctimas eran amigos de Pendergast. Y aún peor: la policía encuentra pruebas contundentes que apuntan contra él como asesino. Pendergast deberá echar mano de toda su astucia y de la ayuda de sus amigos para capturar a Diógenes, tarea complicada y peligrosísima, antes de que él mismo sea detenido por la policía.

Lincoln Child is an American author born on October 13, 1957 in Westport, Connecticut. He is known for his thriller and techno-thriller novels, many of them co-written with Douglas Preston. Before turning to writing, he worked as an editor at St. Martin's Press, where he founded the horror division of the publishing house. Later, he served as a systems analyst at MetLife until his first novel, "The Relic" (1995), written with Preston, allowed him to dedicate himself full-time to literature.

Among his most notable works are "The Cabinet of Curiosities" (2002) and "Dance of Death" (2005), both co-written with Preston and belonging to the thriller genre. Additionally, he has developed the series starring Professor Jeremy Logan, which includes titles such as "The Forgotten Room" (2015). Several of his novels have been New York Times bestsellers, consolidating his reputation in the field of suspense and mystery literature.

Douglas Preston is an American writer and journalist born on May 26, 1956, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is known for his suspense and techno-thriller novels, many of which are co-written with Lincoln Child. Before turning to writing, he worked as an editor at the American Museum of Natural History in New York and taught non-fiction writing at Princeton University. Additionally, he has contributed articles on archaeology and anthropology for The New Yorker magazine.

Among his most notable works are "The Lost Idol" (1995) and "The Relic" (1997), both co-written with Lincoln Child and belonging to the suspense genre. He is also the author of "The Lost City of the Monkey God" (2017), a non-fiction work that narrates the search for a legendary city in Honduras.
