And in spite of having spent two centuries trying to resolve presidential elections through free vote, democracy has turned out to be mere mumbo jumbo, at times denied to all Mexicans. Screaming and kicking (at best) or shooting and backstabbing (if worse, ) advancing Mexican democracy has taken us blood, sweat, and tears. The Cursed Chair is an in-depth tour through each presidential succession of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Cursed or not, the presidential seat has always been the bone of contention. And after each succession, the same inevitable questions arise: Could we have done it differently? Does going to the polls actually make a difference? There won't be fraud this time around?
