Juliet Marillier was born in Dunedin, New Zealand. She defines herself as a historical fantasy writer. Her success with the Sevenwaters series and The Bridei Chronicles has been immediate throughout the English-speaking world. Before focusing exclusively on literature, Juliet Marillier was involved in teaching and music. A member of the druid order OBCD and the Green Party of Australia, Juliet Marillier currently lives in a cottage by a river.
