Mix in Ellen Mercer-Ryan who fled an abusive husband years ago and lives in fear of him; Jack Fenton, her husband, a New York police sergeant still seeking revenge for Ellen leaving him; and Tony Caputo, who loves Ellen and supports Monroe's opponent. And you have all the ingredients for Nick Mercante's latest mystery. After Ellen finds the courage to divorce Fenton, he secretly goes to Washington on a mission of murder, while Tony hires Nick to find ways to protect her.
