A diferencia de otros libros, que se leen sin dificultad, Bouvard y
Pécuchet es una novela que fue construyendo poco a poco a sus lectores.
Pero también podría decirse que, en paralelo, generaciones de lectores
fueron construyendo su importancia e imponiendo la idea de que se trata
de un libro del todo singular dentro de la historia de la literatura mundial.
Entre otras razones, porque a ella se le puede aplicar el planteo que Michel
Foucault formuló para La tentación de San Antonio: se trata de un libro
escrito sobre la base de una biblioteca. Hay, tal vez, otra clave. Para escarnecer los anhelos de la humanidad,
Swift los atribuyó a pigmeos o a simios; Flaubert, a dos sujetos grotescos.
Evidentemente, si la historia universal es la historia de Bouvard y
de Pécuchet, todo lo que la integra es ridículo y deleznable.

Por lo que me contaron, ésta es su versión definitiva hasta el momento; la compré sin dudarlo porque el traductor, Jorge Fondebrider me parece soberbio, profesional, un traductor que además agrega mucha información para enriquecer la lectura.
