Chaos Cauldron - C Lowry

Getting fired is bad. Discovering you’re a witch is worse. Finding out your magic has been building toward an explosion is considerably worse than both.

Karen Miller has spent twenty-five years trying to live a normal life.

No spells.

No magic.

No supernatural disasters.

Just work, rent, bad coffee, difficult tenants, and the occasional plumbing emergency.

Then she gets fired.

And that’s when everything starts going wrong.

Her job applications mysteriously disappear. Strangers warn her to stop looking for work. A black crow begins following her. Her injured cat starts behaving strangely. And an antique copper cauldron she hasn’t touched in years suddenly comes out of storage, starts moving around her apartment, and whispers her name.

Then her grandmother’s old spellbook delivers a message:

YOU LEFT SOMETHING UNFINISHED.

Karen knows exactly what the book means.

Magic.

The thing she’s spent most of her adult life refusing to use.

But Karen soon discovers that magic doesn’t simply disappear when you stop using it. It accumulates. And her grandmother’s enchanted cauldron has been absorbing the excess for years.

Now the cauldron is full.

And it’s about to blow.

When Karen finally unleashes the magic she’s spent decades suppressing, reality starts coming apart around her. Appliances malfunction. Gravity stops cooperating. Furniture flies. The laws of physics become more like suggestions.

And that’s when the people who have been watching her finally reveal themselves.

They’re not trying to destroy her.

They’re trying to recruit her.

Because Karen isn’t just a witch.

She’s exactly what their supernatural emergency-response organization needs: a practical problem solver who understands magic, infrastructure, and what to do when everything goes catastrophically wrong.

Now Karen has a new job, a new boss, a magical department to run, and a copper cauldron that may not be finished with her yet.

Oh-and there’s still the crow.
