Synopsis "Drood"

On June 9, 1865, while traveling by train to London with his secret mistress, 53-year-old Charles Dickens--at the height of his powers and popularity, the most famous and successful novelist in the world and perhaps in the history of the world--hurtled into a disaster that changed his life forever.

Did Dickens begin living a dark double life after the accident? Were his nightly forays into the worst slums of London and his deepening obsession with corpses, crypts, murder, opium dens, the use of lime pits to dissolve bodies, and a hidden subterranean London mere research . . . or something more terrifying?

Dan Simmons was born in 1948 in Peoria (Illinois, USA). After eighteen years dedicated to teaching literature, in 1987 he decided to dedicate himself full-time to writing. Since then, he has cultivated all kinds of genres (from fantasy, to horror and historical fiction), although he is best known for his contribution in the field of science fiction.

He is the author of Hyperion (winner of the Hugo and Locus Awards in 1990), the first novel of the acclaimed series "The Hyperion Cantos", which includes Hyperion, The Fall of Hyperion, Endymion, and The Rise of Endymion. Simmons has become an undisputed reference in contemporary science fiction.
