Synopsis "Final Accounts"

Four estates are gone from Earth's line, and every clearance that closed them is correct. The books balance. Every transaction has a filing behind it. There is no second ledger in a drawer. Luke Vance checks it all himself and finds nothing wrong with any of it. That is the problem.A claim book kept by hand since before the Ledger came holds thirty-one claims. Each one is owed by one of two of the cleared estates. The registry agrees with every figure to the penny. A clearance closed each claim at nil anyway. Across the table, the auditor for a client who relies on the clearances puts it plainly: a clean set of books is not an answer. It is also not a crime.Luke agrees. He has no fraud case. What he has is a standard nobody has ever been asked to name. He has a question nobody has had standing to ask. And he has thirty-one claims he just promised, in writing, to carry into whatever he files next.He starts asking who certified that standard. And he asks why the reconciliation behind it sat open for forty years with nobody reading it.A System Apocalypse LitRPG. The final book of the Apocalypse Auditor trilogy, following The Apocalypse Audit and Total Loss.
