Synopsis "From Root to Path"

There are many paths; this is one of them. A longtime student and teacher of the Bujinkan arts, Rich Pace spent years trying to perform the movements correctly — then began, instead, to understand them. At its center is one small, stubborn idea: the point was never mastery — it was study, and study never runs out. Everything else follows from there — the densho becomes a raft to cross on and leave behind, the "basics" reveal themselves as boundaries with an infinity inside, and even rank turns out to be a beginning, not a destination. This is not an argument to be won. It is one climber calling back down the trail. For anyone who trains — in the Bujinkan or any art — and has begun to wonder what the study is really for.
