John Ostrander es un reconocido guionista de cómics estadounidense, célebre por su capacidad para desarrollar personajes complejos y explorar temas éticos, sociales y psicológicos dentro del universo del cómic. Nació el 20 de abril de 1949 en Chicago, Illinois. Inició su vida académica en el seminario, con intención de ser sacerdote, pero eventualmente orientó su vocación hacia las artes escénicas y la escritura. Comenzó su carrera en el mundo del cómic en los años 80, primero en editoriales independientes, y luego en las grandes casas como DC Comics y Marvel.

Uno de sus logros más importantes fue la reinvención del grupo Suicide Squad en 1987, donde introdujo personajes como Amanda Waller y redefinió a villanos como Deadshot y Captain Boomerang, mostrando sus dimensiones humanas. También es responsable de haber transformado a Barbara Gordon en Oracle, luego de que quedara paralizada tras los eventos de "The Killing Joke".
