Synopsis "Humans in Beta"

Every book takes a stance. To claim otherwise is a form of intellectual dishonesty that this work does not condone. *Humans in Beta* draws on the tradition of critical thinking in education-a tradition that includes Paulo Freire's pedagogy of liberation, the critical theory of the Frankfurt School, Foucauldian poststructuralism, and the contemporary reflections of thinkers such as Byung-Chul Han, Zygmunt Bauman, and Bernard Stiegler on the human condition in the digital age. This stance entails a systematic methodological skepticism toward the dominant discourse on educational innovation-the discourse that speaks of digital transformation, 21st-century skills, and personalized learning with the same advertising cadence used to promote a new smartphone model. Not because these concepts lack substance, but because they have been stripped of critical tension until they have become tools for legitimizing policies that often serve interests other than those of students or teachers. Postmodernity, a concept that runs through this book from beginning to end.
