Synopsis "Just Enough"

"To write your own story is the refusal of the narratives that have been written for and against you." Just Enough: Hunger, Self-Reclamation, & Womanhood, traces a journey from erasure to wholeness within a short poetic composition. Originally written within several years of treatment for anorexia nervosa, this collection outlines not only the more apparent struggles of eating disorders in young women, but the inherent, underlying conversation around identity, survival, agency, and self-ownership which are often neglected in their dialogue. In prose, this compilation works to progress the conversation of the factors which often pressure women from youth to weaponize their own bodies against themselves. This form of self-erasure is discussed as a means to forfeit the agency that is a necessary aspect of human existence. Just Enough hopes to challenge the concepts which have historically expected women to apologize for refusing to participate in their own self-abandonment or viewing their own visibility as shame. About the Author Zoe Madalena is an American writer, community organizer, and advocate who writes extensively on the topics of global and structural inequality, generational trauma, women's liberation, and empowerment. Grounded in the proprietary framework of Existential Violence, Madalena critically explores the relationships between oppression, violence, and individual agency. She is currently working on two non-fiction books and an expanded poetry collection.
