Synopsis "Like Fresh Cut Grass"

My brother and I were driving the Carolina backroads. I love that smell, when the grass has just been cut. I leaned my head out the window to breathe deeply. From that moment of joy emerged the poem, Like Fresh Cut Grass.Such happiness, according to spiritual law, requires commensurate sorrow. In Discourses, Meher Baba writes, "The integration of the opposites of experience is a condition of emancipating consciousness ..." This volume is a reflection of such opposites. As in all of Gabriella Tal's poetry, one feels the deep hum of her direct relationship to God. Her meditations turn to join with the Israeli hostages after the terror attack of October 7, 2023, during which time a dear friend was held for two years in Gazan tunnels. The grief of this history provides a counterpoint to the light in this collection.Gabriella's mother once said to her that "the beauty of life does not stop for the suffering." In her last days, she supported Gabriella to go to Meher Baba's tomb in India. The final sections of this book include Gabriella's visit to India and the foreshadowing of her mother's death. The poems continue to flow - blissful, grieving, redemptive, personal touches from Baba. Readers may integrate some of their own opposites, as the book unfolds, and with God's help, feel some emancipation of consciousness.
