Sheila Dignen es lexicógrafa, escritora de materiales educativos y especialista en enseñanza del inglés como lengua extranjera. Se formó con una maestría en francés y lingüística en la Universidad de Edimburgo, lo que le dio una sólida base teórica para especializarse en léxico, diccionarios infantiles y recursos educativos. Durante más de veinte años trabajó como editora y autora para diccionarios y thesauruses orientados al público joven, aprendices de inglés y materiales escolares.

Ha publicado numerosas obras de enseñanza: entre ellas Oxford Junior Thesaurus, Oxford Children’s Colour Dictionary, y diversos títulos de la serie Open World (Student’s Books, Teacher’s Books y Workbooks) diseñados para hablantes de español. También coeditó The Oxford Dictionary of Allusions, que combina explicaciones etimológicas, literarias y culturales. Hasta donde se sabe, no ha recibido premios literarios destacados; su reconocimiento proviene sobre todo de su contribución práctica y la calidad de sus materiales educativos.
