In Bessarabien geboren, wurde seine Familie 1940 über Österreich nach Westpreu en zwangsumgesiedelt. Von dort flüchtete er gegen Kriegsende mit seiner Pflegefamilie mit dem Pferdewagen nach Deutschland, 1950 mit der Mutter über die Elbe in den Westen. Seine Lebensgeschichte: ein Zeitzeugnis, das bei Älteren eigene Erinnerungen weckt, für Jüngere eine Geschichtsstunde, die die Nachkriegszeit greifbar macht.
