Bukowski wrote books in various genres, such as: diaries, stories, novels, poems, essays, and even wrote Barfly, a film screenplay based on his alter ego Henry Chinaski, directed by French filmmaker Barbet Schroeder, a film in which he made a cameo in a bar.
