Synopsis "Optimization of Biosorption"

This work explores the potential of Antigonon leptopus leaf powder for the biosorption of manganese ions from aqueous solutions. The biosorption of metal ions by Antigonon leptopus leaf powder was found to be pH-dependent, with optimum sorption occurring at pH≈ 6 for Mn. The biosorption mechanism by Antigonon leptopus leaf powder was identified as the biosorption of metal ions onto the surface of biosorbent particles, which was confirmed by the pH edge. The process of metal biosorption was rapid (74% biosorption in 60 min for Mn at an initial metal concentration of 20 mg/L. Results revealed that Mn kinetics data were successfully described using first and second-order models. Furthermore, isotherm experiments revealed that biosorbent possesses high uptake capacities of 17.39 mg/g and Mn according to the Langmuir model.Hence the said Antigonon leptopus leaf powder is highly effective as biosorbent for biosorption of manganese ions from aqueous solutions and can be appreciably considered as the most versatile, economical, feasible, and efficient biosorbent for biosorption of manganese ions from aqueous solutions.
