Karen Russell es una escritora estadounidense nacida en Miami, Florida, en 1981. Es conocida por su estilo imaginativo, su humor oscuro y su capacidad para mezclar lo fantástico con lo cotidiano. Estudió en la Universidad de Columbia, donde obtuvo una maestría en escritura creativa. Desde joven comenzó a publicar cuentos en revistas literarias de prestigio como The New Yorker y Granta, ganando reconocimiento por su originalidad y sensibilidad.

Su primer libro, St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves (2006), fue una colección de relatos que exploraban temas de identidad, crecimiento y naturaleza con un tono mágico y surrealista. En 2011 publicó su primera novela, Swamplandia!, finalista del Premio Pulitzer de Ficción, que narra la historia de una familia que dirige un parque temático de caimanes en los pantanos de Florida.

Russell ha sido galardonada con una beca MacArthur en 2013 y ha sido incluida en la lista de los mejores escritores jóvenes estadounidenses de The New Yorker.
