Synopsis "Pre-concepts"

This book examines the preconceptions and misconceptions held by lower secondary school pupils regarding the three states of matter of water: solid, liquid and gaseous. Classic experiments on this topic were carried out by pupils of this age group and recorded independently. The analysis of the observations brought to light some unexpected preconceptions. Their meanings and origins are analysed in this book. Preconceptions in themselves are neither good nor bad - they simply exist. What matters is how one deals with them, particularly as a teacher in school.
