Synopsis "The Lockout"

At 2:14 a.m., Marty Hobart gets the call every locksmith dreads. At Brookline Gardens -- four hundred units, his biggest account -- a tenant has been assaulted by a man who let himself in with a key. No forced door. No broken lock. A key that, according to the key-control log Marty wrote himself, does not exist. The management company wants a quiet overnight rekey and no report. The tenants' association wants the truth. Detective Ibarra wants the log. And Marty knows where the seventh key came from -- because eight years ago, as a favor for a friend, he cut it himself. Off the book.Confess, and he loses his license, his livelihood, and the account that keeps his shop alive. Stay silent, and live with whatever the next copied key opens.
