Evil is real, and Father Victor Kelly has just come face to face with it, stumbling over the mutilated body of Flora Beatty in All Soul's Chapel within the gothic walls of St. James Episcopal Church in metropolitan Washington, DC. She is the latest victim of a demonic murderer whose methods grow more horrific in nature with each new victim. Victor experienced the battle between good and evil as a child and young adult in the racial divides of south Alabama, where the Klan took the life of one of his closest friends. But now, in the tumultuous 1960s, Victor is newly ordained, and evil seems to be at nearly every turn of Victor's life, with the murders increasing in number and veracity. During eventide of the Advent season, an ominous figure enters the confessional, and speaks words that change everything: "I am Chi Rho." The confession includes the promise that Chi Rho will continue killing "again, and again, and again... as long as I want... as long as I choose." The clock is ticking and Victor is faced with the heart-wrenching choice of breaking the Seal of Confession, which was put into place at the Lateran Council of 1215 AD, or retaining the Confession in accordance with his holy vows. Then Victor is brought up on ecclesiastical charges, and all that he believes is on the verge of collapse. As his trial begins, the forces of good and evil come into a shockingly intense confrontation. Will Victor be able to stop the killer in time? Will he break the Seal? Indeed, evil is real, but will it win out this time?
