The latest version is exported as F-22 (Frigate-22). The Type 053 Frigate has been exported to Egypt (2), Bangladesh (2), Thailand (4), and Pakistan has signed agreement to purchase 4 F-22P frigates in May 2006. The use of NATO code-name vs. PLAN ship type is often confusing. For purpose of clarification, this article will briefly discuss all versions of the Type 053 frigates.
