"When I first met Vatani as a young cub, he was being bred in captivity to be utilized as an animal ambassador at a public conservation center. However it became clear quite quickly that this beautiful, young lion was probably not the best choice for this role. Even at 5 weeks, Vatani exhibited inordinate self-confidence, unwavering fearlessness and an independent spirit. These traits, although admirable in many circumstances, did not bode well for Vatani finding his "forever home" and living a happy, healthy life. And so I realized there was only one clear choice...I must raise Vatani myself. Since I had worked with Apex predators for over 20 years prior, I knew (or thought I knew) I was prepared to take on this daunting challenge.
