Synopsis "What They Will Say"

In a collection that is at once meditative, quiet, yet brimming with intensity, Jake Young invites us to engage with the world around us, a world whose pain is equaled only by its joy. These poems are keen observations and distilled reflections, which serve as reminders of the world's complexities and incongruences. Young does not shy away from admitting "the world is full / of such discrepancies and paradoxes." Bridging the long divide between Whitman's American multitudes and Bashō's traveling meditations, this is a collection that reminds us that despite the suffering and isolation that comes with being alive, we all walk the path of our lives together. Connected by our shared desires and losses, these poems stitch each of us into a tapestry of shared humanity.
