Synopsis "Where we Stand: Class Matters "

Drawing on both her roots in Kentucky and her adventures with Manhattan Coop boards, Where We Stand is a successful black woman's reflection--personal, straight forward, and rigorously honest--on how our dilemmas of class and race are intertwined, and how we can find ways to think beyond them.

(Kentucky, 1952-2021) Gloria Jean Watkins, known under the pseudonym bell hooks (which she adopted in honor of her great-grandmother Bell Blair Hooks), is an American writer, feminist, and social activist. The focus of her writing has been the intersectionality between race, class, and gender, and what she describes as her ability to produce and perpetuate systems of class oppression and domination. She has published more than 40 books and numerous academic articles, has appeared in documentaries, and participated in public lectures. She has addressed race, class, and gender in education, art, history, sexuality, media, and feminism. In 2014, she founded the bell hooks Institute at Berea College, Berea, Kentucky.
