Synopsis "william gillette,actor, playwright, inventor"

Who was William Gillette? William Gillette: Actor, Writer, and Inventor answers this question by portraying Gillette as a brilliant stage actor and writer, named one of the "Fifty Immortals" by the National Institute of Arts and Letters. He was the inventor genius who took delight in his boat as he did in his castle, with cats, trains, and a secret door. An intelligent man whose real legacy consisted in bringing the exciting adventures of Sherlock Holmes to the stage, radio, and film. Perhaps Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes, said it best when he wrote to Gillette that the Holmes in [my] stories was "a very limp object compared to the glamour of your personality." William Gillette is an easy read enriched with numerous photos and information. Readers age ten and up will enjoy this brief, descriptive biography. Ideal for libraries, schools, information and cultural centers.
