I started writing at the age James Joyce died (58). I am a late bloomer as a writer, perhaps as a result of being an early reader. I am interested in the mix of genres, all kinds of genres, as a way to make literature. I don't believe in borders. Although without undermining them, I lean towards creative promiscuity. I like to see poetry stretching its arms in the conjugal bed of the novel. And the theater passing by, tipping its hat, "sorry, I got the wrong room." Or the essay, so serious, so sure of itself, telling everyone what to do. I like that, that there are no customs or police controls on the corners. That is the plot of "Pantomime," and what comes next (if it ever does).
