He is the one his pack sends when the talking is over. She is the one who looked him in the face and was not afraid. For fifteen years Soren Brask has been the wolf nobody on Thornrake Ridge stands too close to. He is the biggest man on the mountain and the quietest, and he has built an entire life around the understanding that being feared is the only thing he will ever be good for. Then the pack hires a witch for the winter.Tess Navarro came up for the work, not the welcome. Forty-one miles of ruined boundary line, a mountain about to be closed in by snow, and a pack that has never once paid a witch on time. She is good at her job, she is faster than they expected, and she looks straight at Soren like there is nothing in him worth flinching from. That is the one thing about her he has no idea how to survive.Because a wolf and a witch cannot quietly belong to each other. They have to claim it out loud, in front of the whole pack, and that would turn every eye on the ridge toward a man who has spent fifteen years making sure nobody looked at him closely. And Soren has one thing left in the world to lose. His son is eight years old. He lives down in the valley with his mother's family. Not one wolf on that mountain knows the boy exists. Then Tess finds the boundary cut from the inside. Careful work. Done by somebody the pack trusts. The broken stretch runs straight above the valley road, and the pass has already closed behind her.Nobody else is coming up this mountain until April.Bared Throat is a standalone paranormal romance with a guaranteed happily ever after, set in the Wolves of Thornrake.
