Synopsis "Concepta"

.In 1950's Ireland, young women who strayed were sent away in silence. When Concepta is confined to a religious hospital she didn't really fit in; she was a widow, the others were not. She was told her baby will be 'placed' with a good family in America - for the best.Concepta did not have a good start, her parents were on the run from the IRA, 20 years later in Blackpool Connie did not speak. She has not spoken for years - carrying her burden and a small bundle of payment slips as proof that her child once existed.Mark and Wendy must interpret this. Decades later, when long-buried records surface and the truth begins to emerge, the quiet mystery she has lived with all her life takes on a devastating shape.Subtle, restrained and deeply moving, Concepta is a powerful novel about silence, institutional cruelty, and the dignity that survives even when the truth is cast adrift.
