Synopsis "Divina Comedia (in Spanish)"

Divina Comedia / Dante Alighieri
Se trata de un enorme poema épico-alegórico (nada menos que 14.333, versos endecasílabos, distribuidos en cien cantos: treinta y Cuatro para el Infierno, treinta y tres para el Purgatorio y treinta y tres para el Paraíso) escrito por el florentino Dante Alighieri (1265 -1321) en el exilio. Iniciado quizás hacia 1304 y finalizado en 1321, poco antes de la muerte de su autor. Reproducido en numerosos manuscritos, se imprimió por primera vez en 1472 y desde entonces ha conocido innumerables ediciones, tanto en su texto original italiano, como en sus numerosas traducciones a la mayoría de las lenguas del mundo, así como versiones en prosa para su mejor comprensión y amenidad lectora. La obra en rigor carece de título, porque comedia en realidad, no es más que el subtítulo que indica al género literario a que pertenece, con un comienzo infausto y un final feliz. Fue Bocaccio el que le añadió el adjetivo de Divina por primera vez y no se generalizó hasta la edición veneciana de 1555.

It is considered the masterpiece of Italian literature and one of the peaks of world literature. In Italian he is known as "the Supreme Poet". Dante is also called the "Father of the Italian language". He actively participated in the political struggles of his time, which led to his exile from his hometown. He was an active defender of Italian unity. He wrote several treatises in Latin on literature, politics, and philosophy.
