Harlan is Jason's closest friend. He and Jason are very much alike. In every way. Their looks, their mannerisms, their core values. They could be taken for brothers. Unlike Jason, though, Harlan holds no sword of Damocles over Dutch's head. Without realizing that he does it, Dutch transfers his hatred for Jason onto Harlan. With tragic consequences that bring his own son face-to-face with a horrifying death.
