Synopsis "La divina comedia (in Spanish)"

Aunque Dante tituló su obra solo con la palabra Comedia, Boccaccio la catalogó de Divina tras su lectura por tratar asuntos no terrenales y así la conocemos hoy.

La obra relata el viaje del propio autor por el Infierno, el Purgatorio y el Paraíso, siempre guiado por Virgilio, poeta de la Roma clásica, con el que se encontró cuando andaba perdido entre bestias salvajes.

El poeta pasa por cada parte, que a su vez están divididas en nueve círculos. Los que moran en el Infierno se subdividen en tres categorías: los incontinentes, los violentos y los fraudulentos; en el Purgatorio permanecen los que el amor los llevó al pecado, los poco amantes del bien y los que amaron demasiado los bienes terrenales; en el Paraíso están los seglares, los activos y los contemplativos.

Este poema sacro, originalmente escrito en tercetos endecasílabos, dividido en cien cantos, se presenta en esta edición en una cuidada prosa, para que sea mejor entendida por el lector medio.

Dante is also called the "Father of the Italian language". He actively participated in the political struggles of his time, which led to his exile from his hometown. He was an active defender of Italian unity. He wrote several treatises in Latin on literature, politics, and philosophy.
