The Last Responder - Christina Tengelin

A post apocalyptic tale told from the perspective of a medicolegal death investigator who experienced the end of the familiar world during a double shift.

On her final shift as a Medicolegal Death Investigator, a routine case becomes the first data point in a pattern that signals the collapse of humanity. As a biotech catastrophe spreads unchecked, she is left with the only tools she has ever trusted: clinical detachment, forensic expertise, and an investigator's instinct for truth.

Moving through a city transformed into an open-air morgue, she documents abandoned cars, silent homes, and uncounted dead. With no systems left to report to and no help left to summon, she becomes the last responder-bearing witness to the end of the world through the careful reading of death scenes.

A character-driven post-apocalyptic medical thriller, this novel blends scientifically grounded biotech horror with psychological tension and graphic realism. It explores duty, identity, and compassion in a world where survival is no longer possible, and documentation becomes the final act of care.

This is her final report.
