Synopsis "This Life So Brief Between Eternities"

Past before birth, and Future after death are epochs of non-existence that affect our Present, our existence, in different ways. The cover of this book presents a panorama that suggests their interplay. The Past is colored in light blue to suggest that it is inviting and seeable in our lifetime. History takes us there, opening a cornucopia of worlds and lives lived. The Future after our death is stark, austere, and unseeable. And so, it is depicted in dark blue. And yet, for many people this dark eternity is lit up by the promise of blissful everlasting life. The Present, the site of our existence, is depicted as a white and shining little dot, a mere spark between eternities. How does it interact with the other two? How do memory and imagination connect all three? Ascetic and religious people live as if in wait for the everlasting Utopian afterlife. Agnostic and irreligious people don't believe in the afterlife and put their emphasis on the richness of the Present and the Past. Others live willy nilly, like unthinking mammals, not caring about what came before or may come after. All the poems in the poetic essays between these covers deal with Time, the single element that flows through these eternities not always linearly but at times in loops and curves that boomerang through the tides and currents of memory and imagination.
