What a Lifetime Never Forgets | ما لا ينساه العمر (in Arabic)
Kamal Taoube;Ali Taoube (Author) · Meraat Algharb · Paperback
Not everything that has passed returns to us.
Time carries some things away with it, but there are others it can never truly take, no matter how far the road stretches.
Faces disappear, yet their features remain suspended somewhere between the heart and memory. Homes are worn down by the years, only for us to discover that they are still standing within us-in their stones and doorways, in the smell of coffee, in the footsteps of those we loved.
We rarely understand the value of things while they are still ours. We understand it once they have become memories. Only then do we realize that some of what we once dismissed as small details was, in fact, life itself.
Within each of us there is some little village: an old house, a street, a tree, an embrace, a hand that once held ours when we were afraid-or a small homeland we tucked away deep inside ourselves as we went on growing far from it. We may have grown distant from it, but it never grew distant from us.
What a Lifetime Never Forgets is not simply a story about the past. It is about that part of life we lived not only with our bodies, but with our souls. It is about the roots that remain within us no matter how far we wander, and the places that continue to remember us even when we think we have forgotten them.
And when, at the end of the road, we look back, we will not remember every year.
We will remember a face. An embrace. A house. A tree. A distant voice still calling us by the names we first knew.
Because a lifetime is not measured by the years that pass through us,
but by what remains within us after they have passed.
