Kanae Minato was born in Hiroshima. In 2007, she debuted as a writer by winning the twenty-ninth edition of the award given by the magazine Shosetsu Suiri, dedicated to mystery novels, for the story "The Saint". In 2008, she published her first novel, Confessions (Nocturna, 2021), which sold more than three million copies in Japan, won awards such as the booksellers' award or the Alex Award from the Library Association in the United States and had a successful film adaptation (directed by Tetsuya Nakashima) that represented Japan at the Oscars. A year later, she published Penance (Nocturna, 2022), adapted into a television miniseries by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, in which she again delves into the theme of revenge and the tragic events it triggers.
Currently, Kanae Minato is fully dedicated to writing and is a member of the Mystery Writers of Japan Association.
