Synopsis "Kali's Fish "

"Long ago, in the summer of Kali’s fifteenth year, a great fish came to the sacred pond that lay between the tribes of the Red Feather and the Blue Feather. It came at night, under moon’s embrace, appearing deep down in the pond, in clouds of light below the surface. It came without purpose, but to swim and be. It came naked, skinless, toothless, gumless, colorless. It came as nothing, then suddenly it was.." So begins the story of "Kali's Fish," a full-length tragedy executed in a the classical Greek style. Young Cale, who must be chief, is deeply in love with Kali. But he is Red Feather, and she is Blue. Tradition, enforced by Cale's father, Chief Moag, must hold sway. But tradition is upended one moon-filled night, when Kali reports seeing a fish appear in the sacred pond. So begins the struggle between father and son, tradition and change, life and death. "Kali's Fish" is a two-act play with a running time of approximately 80 minutes. The cast features 3 males, 2 females, 6 of either gender, and a chorus of 4 or more (the members of which can also serve in the roles for either gender). Contact information is available on the last page of the text for those wishing to formally stage the play.
