Publicada originalmente en 1977, La frontera nómada fue reconocida desde su aparición como un clásico de la historiografía de México. El libro explica como el margen más remoto del territorio del territorio pudo conquistar y luego gobernar al centro. Una radiografía histórica que comienza en la geografía del remoto estado de Sonora se transforma en una explicación del modo en que se organizó el ejército triunfante de la Revolución, y aclara aspectos fundamentales de la formación del Estado mexicano una vez concluida la fase armada. Es por esto que la frontera nómada es u clásico de la historia de México: comienza en un territorio muy particular, y acaba explicando la formación del Estado revolucionario.

Héctor Aguilar Camín (Chetumal, Quintana Roo, 1946) is a distinguished Mexican writer, journalist, and historian. With a degree in Information Sciences from the Universidad Iberoamericana and a PhD in History from El Colegio de México, he has been the director of Nexos magazine and a contributor to media outlets such as La Jornada, Milenio, and Unomásuno. His journalistic and literary work has been recognized with the National Award for Cultural Journalism in 1986 and the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1989.

Among his most notable works are Morir en el Golfo (1985), La guerra de Galio (1990), and Un soplo en el río (1997), the latter awarded the Mazatlán Prize for Literature in 1998. His production spans genres such as the novel, essay, and history, addressing themes of Mexican politics and culture. Additionally, he has co-written essays like Un futuro para México (2010) with Jorge G. Castañeda, contributing to the analysis of the political and social development of the country.
