Admirador profundo de Dante, lector atento y original de su obra, Borges debe el descubrimiento de laDivina Comedia a la conjunción de un tranvía y una librería inglesa de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires hacia fines de la década del 30. De ahí en más el poema, causa de "las emociones estéticas más intensas" de su vida, se convertirá en referencia que cruzará buena parte de sus ficciones de madurez y en fuente inagotable para la escritura de ensayos y conferencias.

Publicados en la prensa entre 1948 y 1951 y reunidos por primera vez en volumen en 1982, en estos Nueve ensayos dantescos Borges traza un recorrido a través de los episodios de la Divina Comedia que más lo impactaron al tiempo que ofrece una de sus lecturas más lúcidas, personales y reveladoras.

Jorge Luis Borges (Buenos Aires, 1899 – Geneva, 1986) was one of the most influential writers of the 20th century, noted for his originality and literary precision. His work, primarily in the genres of short stories, essays, and poetry, redefined literature in the Spanish language. Throughout his life, he cultivated unparalleled erudition, with constant references to philosophy, metafiction, labyrinths, and the infinite.

Among his most recognized works are Fictions (1944), The Aleph (1949), The Maker (1960), and The Book of Sand (1975). Although he never received the Nobel Prize, he did obtain numerous international accolades for his work. His legacy continues to be a subject of study and admiration in the literary world worldwide.
