Synopsis "Cuentos Completos (in Spanish)"

Las narraciones extraordinarias (1840) dan comienzo a la mejor etapa de Poe como narrador. Los temas que constituyen el volumen ponen de manifiesto los intereses en la mente del escritor. Por un lado, lo grotesco; es decir, lo fantástico, como el cuento de los locos (el sistema del doctor alquitrán y del profesor pluma) y, del otro, los relatos de tema arábigo. En 1843, Poe asombra a los lectores con los crímenes de la Rue Morgue y el hombre de los restos, dos relatos esplendidos por su factura y por el concentrado interés de sus escenas. Poe, entonces, se puso en un salto a la cabeza de los narradores de intriga; de hecho, capitaneo a los autores de novelas policiales. Es muy difícil que Gaboriau, Leblanc y el moderno Simenon, así como Connan Doyle, Wallace y Agatha Christie hayan podido superar la tensión creciente en Poe. Podría acaso hallarse paralelo en Hoffman. Es que la fantasía de Poe, como la de Quincey y Baudelaire (su traductor al francés), y más tarde la Wilde y Kafka, poseía recursos extraordinarios. Los sesenta y seis cuentos agrupados aquí dan cabales muestras del enorme talento del autor.
