J. D. Salinger
Jerome David Salinger (New York, 1919 - New Hampshire, 2010) is one of the most popular and mysterious figures in American literary history. He established his reputation on the basis of a single novel, The Catcher in the Rye (1951), whose main character, Holden Caulfield, embodied the suffering of a generation of high school and college students.
