Jahrhundert Mittelpunkt der Gorzer Reformbewegung. Der Grnder der Benediktinerabtei war Bischof Chrodegang von Metz. Das Kloster war ein bischfliches Eigenkloster und reich begtert. Geweiht war es St. Gorgonius. Bereits kurze Zeit spter gingen von der Einrichtung wichtige Impulse aus. Das Kloster war eine der wichtigsten Triebkrfte zur Durchsetzung des benediktinischen Mnchtums im frnkischen Reich.
