Achim Hollerieth war bis zur A-Jugend zunchst Strmer beim FC Ostrach, TuS Celle, und dem SC Pfullendorf. Als bei der Pfullendorfer Jugend alle Torhter ausfielen, wurde er spontan zum Torwart umfunktioniert. Diese Position behielt er bei. Zur Saison 1996/97 wechselte er zum KFC Uerdingen 05 in die 2. Bundesliga. Nach zwei Spielzeiten als Ersatztorhter wurde er Saison 1998/99 Stammspieler und machte den VfB Stuttgart auf sich aufmerksam, fr den er in der 1999/2000 spielte. Hinter Franz Wohlfahrt konnte er sich jedoch nicht durchsetzen und wurde vom jungen Timo Hildebrand sogar als zweiter Torhter verdrngt. Damit blieb sein Einsatz beim 4:2 gegen den MSV Duisburg am 18. September 1999 sein einziges Spiel in der 1. Bundesliga.
