(Adopted land) (in Russian)
Lena Berson (Author) · Virgola Press · Paperback
Most of the poems in Lena Berson's new collection The Adopted Landwere written over the past year and a half; the rest "moved over" from two previous collections whose central theme was war - or more precisely, life against the backdrop of war: changes that are hard to make sense of, decisions that are painful to make, and the desire to keep one's loved ones and oneself intact.
"Lena writes with remarkable simplicity - as though she herself were her own line of verse, as though gazing into a mirror. The organic quality with which she inhabits and lives through another's grief in her poems is boundless. Such immersion is akin to the work of a truly great actor," wrote the poet Vadim Zhuk about her.
