Synopsis "Agota Kristof: Collected Plays (Oberon Modern Playwrights) "

Available for the first time in English, this volume is a collection of all nine plays Kristóf wrote; five full length plays and four shorter plays: John and Joe, The Lift Key, A Passing Rat, The Grey Hour or the Last Client, The Monster, The Road, The Epidemic, The Atonement, and Line, of times.Pre-dating her acclaimed novel The Notebook, these plays are a fascinating insight into the development of her writing and ideas. Her work explores themes of war and destruction; love and loneliness; desperate sexual encounters; desire and loss; truth and fiction.

Agota Kristof was born on October 30, 1935 in Hungary. In her hometown, Neuchâtel, she spent her childhood and adolescence.

During her youth, she was linked to the Hungarian Revolution; however, when the Warsaw Pact was signed and the revolution was crushed, Kristof had to flee. She went into exile with her husband and her four-month-old daughter, in Switzerland. She lived the rest of her life in this country.

Her literary career began in the fields of poetry and theater. And she did it from exile: the main theme in all her work. Agota adopted the French language for her work and all her writing developed in that language.
