Im toten Körper ist der Mensch gleichzeitig da und nicht mehr da. Im ersten Augenblick nehme ich nur diese verstörende Gleichzeitigkeit wahr, als ich John zum ersten Mal tot sehe. Da liegt mein Sohn, 15 Jahre alt, ganz er. Ich sehe sein Haar, seinen Mund, seine Hände. Ich denke ein bisschen erstaunt zunächst nur das: Er ist so ganz und gar er. Ebenso eindeutig ist aber alles Leben aus seinem Körper entwichen. Ich sehe die Totenflecken, die Hautverfärbungen, sehe, dass dies eindeutig ein toter Körper ist. John ist da und nicht mehr da. Am 5. März 2016 ist John gestorben. In diesem Buch geht es um Trauer und Trost in den ersten fünf Jahren nach seinem Tod.
