Grant Morrison, born on January 31, 1960 in Glasgow, Scotland, is a renowned comic book writer, playwright, and producer. His style is characterized by non-linear narratives and the incorporation of countercultural themes in his works.
He is known for his innovative work in comics, from the graphic novel Batman: Arkham Asylum to the acclaimed series of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and X-Men, as well as his subversive creator-owned titles like The Invisibles, Seaguy, The Filth, and WE3.
On television, adaptations of his comic series Happy! for Syfy and Netflix and Aldous Huxley's Brave New World for Peacock have been developed. He is also the author of the New York Times bestseller Supergods. Morrison received an MBE for his services to film and literature.
Frazer Alex Irving es un artista de cómics británico conocido principalmente por la serie Necronauts, publicado por la revista británica 2000 AD. Después de entrar en el mercado americano ha trabajado en varios títulos de superhéroes, incluyendo una serie de colaboraciones con Grant Morrison.
Nativo de Ilford, Essex , Irving estudió arte en la Universidad de Portsmouth, Inglaterra, para posteriormente realizar varios trabajos temporales en Londres. Más tarde, trabajó en Storming Heaven, un relato psicodélico basado en el psicólogo y escritor Timothy Leary y el famoso asesino Charles Manson, escrito por el guionista Gordon Rennie; así como en The Simping Detective y From Grace escrito, ambas junto al escritor Simon Spurrier.
Irving también ha realizado trabajos de ilustración para compañías de juegos de rol como Wizards of the Coast, Hogshead Publishing y Guardians of Order, así como en pequeñas publicaciones de prensa como el fanzine The End Is Nigh. Además, realiza animaciones en el fomato conocido como Flash para agencias de publicidad.
El estilo de Irving tiene cierta inspiración en el arte de Bernie Wrightson, pero utilizando métodos propios de las nuevas tecnologías. Su primer trabajo publicado, además como autor completo, es la historia titulada "The Gift of Laughter", incluido en la antología Meanwhile... publicada en 1997, bajo el sello editorial Soaring Penguin Press. No obstante, donde realmente se daría a conocer Irving sería la revista británica 2000 AD, en la que a partir del año 2000 comenzaría a ilustrar el serial titulado Future Shocks. Posteriormente, también trabajaría en Judge Dredd Megacine. De ahí daría el salto al mercado estadounidense, dibujando y entintando la miniserie Seven Soldiers: Klarion the Witch Boy, cuyo trabajo fue alabado por el propio guionista de la obra: Grant Morrison.
Esto le llevó a obtener más encargos dentro de la industria estadounidense, incluyendo para las edictoriales Marvel y DC Comics. Para la Casa de las Ideas realizaría la miniserie de seis números Iron Man: Inevitable, escrita por Joe Casey a la que le seguirían otros proyectos como Silent War, protagonizado por los Inhumanos, junto al escrito David Hine. También participó en la saga titulada "La Batalla por la Capucha" para DC, ilustrando la miniserie Azrael, escrita por Fabian Nicieza.
Irving es responsable del arte de Tertiary, Quandary and Quintessential, una adaptación del serial radiofónico The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Entre sus diferentes trabajos para DC Comics se incluirían títulos como Batman and Robin, Batman Incorporated, Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne, todos ellos en colaboración con Morrison. Además ilustraría la miniserie de seis números Xombi. En Boom! Studios dibujaría títulos como Higher Earth, o Polarity y algunas portadas para Deathmatch, mientras que en Image Comics realizaría las portadas para la serie Bedlam.
En 2013 comenzaría a colaborar con Marvel Comics, realizando primero alguna portada alternativa para pasar después a ser el dibujnate regular de Uncanny X-Men Vol.3, entintándose a sí mismo, además de ser el colorista. Otros trabajos para la Casa de las Ideas incluyen títulos como The Unworthy Thor, Star-Lord, Doctor Strange Vol.3, The Uncanny Inhumans y All-New Guardians of the Galaxy, entre otros.
