Berossos war ein im 4./3. Jahrhundert v. Chr. lebender babylonischer Priester des Gottes Bēl-Marduk und einer der bedeutendsten Priesterastronomen der Antike. Der Althistoriker und Altorientalist Paul Schnabel (1887 - 1947) beschäftigte sich intensiv mit der Geschichte und Chronologie des alten Orients und ganz besonders mit Berossos.
