Was that really Frank Sinatra shopping in a Blackpool supermarket?The same Frank Sinatra who had disappeared from the Clifton Hotel the previous day?The one and only Frank who sang in a steaming hot Blackpool Opera House, while Connie Birn and her friend Jean Harper gazed in rapture as they hyperventilated in their seats?Connie Birn was head receptionist at the afore-mentioned Clifton Hotel, and this at the early age of twenty-three. It was also where her idol was staying, and where, on his arrival, Sinatra smiled directly at her as he pushed through the swing doors.The year was nineteen fifty-three; an exhilarating twelve months during which a young queen was crowned in June and the Korean War came to an end in December.Mount Everest was finally conquered.It was also a period of abduction, murder and organized crime on both sides of the Atlantic. The effects of this were felt even in Blackpool, the north of England's top seaside resort, when yet another disappearance was reported.This time, Connie Birn was missing.
